From Christmas markets and festive parties to pantomimes and craft fairs, there is so much for university students to see and do during the Xmas break.
Don’t fancy braving the cold this winter? Not to worry – there are loads of cheap and cheerful ways you can spread Christmas cheer at your student accommodation in Ormskirk. For instance, you could deck the halls with twinkling fairy lights, get a Christmas tree and cover it in tinsel and baubles, or make mince pies with your housemates.
Here at McComb Students, we love Christmas, and to ensure you enjoy it just as much as we do, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite festive things to do in Ormskirk…
1. Immerse yourself in festive fun at Ormskirk Christmas Frost Fair
Looking to do a spot of Xmas shopping? Want to enjoy some delicious food? Ormskirk Christmas Frost Fair on Sunday 5th December allows you to do both!
Over 70 pretty stalls are offering handmade gifts and homemade goodies to eat on the day or take back to your student accommodation.
Simply wrap up warm and soak up the festive music, magical lights, and friendly atmosphere.
2. Check out the stalls at the Owd Barn Christmas Markets
With stalls offering everything from handmade jewellery and wax melts to cakes and bakes or beer and gin, you’re sure to find the perfect present for your mum, dad, and bestie at the Owd Barn Christmas Markets.
Entry is free, and you can even enjoy a cheeky tipple from the barn’s local brewer.
Be quick though, as the Christmas markets are only here for four Saturdays – the last one being Saturday 11th December!
3. Spend the day with your family at Welcome to Who-Ville
Dr Seuss’ How the Grinch stole Christmas is a family favourite at Christmastime, and a film you’ll probably watch this year at your student accommodation in Ormskirk.
Hurlston Hall is offering a kids’ party like no other on Sunday 5th & 12th December – Welcome to Who-Ville – which is perfect if you’ve got younger siblings, cousins, nieces, or nephews!
At Who-Ville Wonderland, the kids can expect to see Cindy Lou, and get a special visit from the Grinch himself. Whilst the price includes a finger buffet for the children, there’ll be a glass of fizz for every grown-up.
4. Laugh out loud at Burscough Arts Centre
If you’re wanting to do something fun with your housemates or coursemates before heading home for the Christmas break, and you all share a similar sense of humour, this is just the ticket!
Less than a 10-minute drive from Edge Hill University and our student accommodation in Ormskirk, Burscough Arts Centre is hosting a Christmas special night of comedy on Friday 17th December.
With comedian Leo Kearse headlining, and various other hilarious comedians performing, you’re sure to have a fantastic time.
5. Indulge in festive food at The Sandpiper
Christmas is a time to eat, drink, and be merry.
With crackling log fires and cosy corners, The Sandpiper isn’t too far from our student lets. It’s the perfect spot for chilled drinks with friends, seasonal gatherings, and Christmas lunch.
So, although you could whip up a festive meal and sip mulled wine at your student accommodation in Ormskirk, why not take a look at your local country pub’s special Xmas menu and make a booking?
Make the most of the festivities whilst studying at uni
Here at McComb Students, we appreciate that juggling your studies and social life can be difficult – but it’s all about finding the right balance.
If you’ve got a busy week of revision but your friends are focused on going Christmas shopping, see if they can go at the weekend instead.
Similarly, if you’re planning a festive get-together with your mates back home, try to arrange it for a convenient time (i.e. not the night before your assignment is due, or when you have a 9am lecture the next morning!).
If you have any further questions or would like to know more about our Ormskirk student accommodation, don’t hesitate to give us a call on 01695 422 122.
