Last weekend saw the annual Christmas Lights Switch On in the town centre. The streets around the famous clock tower were bustling with people from all over and it was a really great atmosphere. Famous faces from The Grinch to Elphaba from Wicked were also seen wondering around and engaging with the crowd.
The Night Markets
Ormskirk is famous for its market days on Thursdays and Saturdays. The market dates back to 1286, when the monks at nearby Burscough Priory were granted a Royal Charter by Edward 1. During the Christmas lights switch on, the markets are back! There were plenty of stalls from beer tents – selling mulled wine, mulled cider and lager – to jewellery stalls selling lovely Christmas gifts. It is definitely worth a wonder down next year to experience the atmosphere that Ormskirk has to offer.
The Show
Whilst we were having a look around the stalls, we were treated to carol singers, performers and also an ABBA tribute act! Hits from Gimme Gimme Gimme to Mama Mia really got the crowd moving and Moor Street really came to life.
Town Centre
With the annual event taking place right in the heart of Ormskirk, it is easily accessible when living with McComb. All the accommodation is within easy walking distance of the town centre, so it is really easy to get involved with all Ormskirk has to offer.
It is definitely worth putting in your diary for next year as the night is really one to remember!
