Before heading home for Christmas get together with your Uni friends and enjoy a Christmas Dinner.
Never cooked a roast before? No problem! We’ll show you how and how to do it all on a budget!
POTATOES
How to cook the perfect crispy roast potatoes (the most important part of the meal!)
- Peel your potatoes and cut them up into bite sized chunks and put them in boiling water for 10 minutes.
- Next put a few tablespoons of oil in a roasting pan, drain the potatoes, add a spoonful of flour and salt (optional addition: duck fat) and put them in the oven for 20 minutes turn them over and roast for another 30 minutes at 220 degrees to get them extra crispy!
MEAT
- Put your chicken or turkey in the oven with olive oil salt and pepper at 200 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
- For a whole turkey put it in the oven for 20 mins at 220 degrees and then turn it down to 190 degrees for 45 minutes (put the turkey in before the potatoes so they are done at a similar time)
- For Veggies use a vegetable wellington instead of meat!
VEGETABLES
- Popular vegetable options for a roast dinner are carrots, parsnips and sweet potatoes!
- Peel and cut them into long slices, drizzle with oil and honey and roast for 20-30 minutes in the oven. Remember to keep turning and checking until you are happy with how they are cooked!
YORKSHIRE PUDDINGS + PEAS
- 10 minutes before serving heat up the Yorkshire puddings and peas as the instructions advise on the packs as they both any take a few minutes to heat up!
- Use Aunt Bessie’s pack of 10 Yorkshire Puddings for £2.10 from Waitrose!
GRAVY
- Add boiling water to instant gravy granules
- Top Tip: add leftover juices from the dish you booked your meat in and pour it into your gravy for extra taste!
TOP TIP: Timing is key! Make sure you plan out your times before starting to cook to ensure everything is ready at the same time ready to serve!
