Everybody has those family favourites that they make / bake at Christmas and my family is no exception. This recipe is one that my Great Grandma used to make at Christmas time and it has been passed down to my mum.
Peppermint Patties aren’t always well know, and I had to ask what they where when I first saw them! But they are a gorgeous minty sweet that can be dipped into chocolate for extra flavour.
10 minutes prep time
3-4 hours to set
The Ingredients List:
- Peppermint Essence
- Full box of icing Sugar
- Eggs
- Chocolate of your choice
- Food Colouring (whichever colour you want your sweets to be)
The Method
Sieve the icing sugar into a large bowl.
Add a small bit of the egg white and a few drops of the peppermint essence. Mix this really well. The mixture should come together into a soft dough so keep adding egg white until this starts to happen.
Taste the mixture and add more peppermint essence if you feel it needs it.
Divide the mixture into small balls (flattened into disc shapes).
Space out the discs onto a baking tray.
Melt your chocolate in a microwave blasting 30 seconds at a time. Allow to cool once melted and then dip the patties into the chocolate.
Return the patties to the baking tray and allow to cool for 3-4 hours (you could also leave them to set overnight.
